Renovation cash boost for hoteliers

Policy proposed to help tourism and construction sectors

The Department of Tourism is drafting a decree that will see funds released to hoteliers who wish to renovate their premises. These benefits will be granted for a period of two years and are part of a policy initiated by the tourism minister Miquel Nadal in order to improve accommodation. The aim of the policy will be to provide an incentive for entrepreneurs, according to the Diario de Mallorca, citing sources from the Ministry of Tourism.

The decree contains urgent measures to boost investment in the tourism industry, which will throw a lifeline to construction workers and thereby boost the economy of the island. It is thought that the decree will be fast-tracked, bypassing the usual red tape – for example, procedures relating to planning and environmental regulations will be much simpler. (RO)
